It is that time of year again: the Annual Catholic Appeal (ACA) begins for the Archdiocese of Saint Louis. The ACA is what enables the Archdiocese to carry out its many ministries to the poor. Funds are shared with ministry to prison inmates, immigrants, and programs that provide food, housing, and other resources to those in need. The contributions are also shared with rural and inner-city ministries. Some of the funds help the Archdiocese itself to function; without the ACA, the Archdiocesan offices would not be able to provide us with parish support (we call or email them almost every day). Especially this year Saints Teresa and Bridget has benefitted from the ACA. Over the winter we were given both an Ensuring Parish Viability grant and an emergency grant (to fix our broken boiler and restore heat in the church). The combined total of those two grants was 23,211 dollars. The good we do comes back to us!
On April 18 the Archdiocese sent pledge cards directly to your homes. We have duplicates we can give you if you need them. If you prefer to give online, the link is below. The goal the Archdiocese have set for us is 11,155 dollars. By meeting this goal we not only provide support for people without resources, we are able to help other parishes in the same way we were helped this year. Thank you so much for your generosity!
If you give online, please make sure to click the drag-down box and select Saints Teresa and Bridget Church as your parish (so that we will receive the credit). To give to the ACA online, please click HERE.
Dear Parishioners,
The Archdiocese has officially launched the All Things New initiative. All Things New will take us through a process of renewing our commitment to Christ through deep prayer, more effective evangelization, and discernment regarding what changes and sacrifices we will need to make for this renewal to bear good fruit. We've already been told that the process will include a major restructuring of the Archdiocese and a greater concentration of parish and educational resources. At this point the temptation is to jump to the final stage and ask what this means for the future of our parish, but for now, the more important question to ask is what kind of parish is needed for the next generation. We want future Catholics to have the same parish opportunities we had when we were young and that will involve change. What that change will be is up to the Holy Spirit and we will join with other believers throughout the Archdiocese in the discernment process. Two things are certain: every parish and institution will be affected and our leadership is committed to maintaining a Catholic presence in every square mile of the Archdiocese.
By going to the All Things New website you can subscribe to the All Things New mailing list to stay up-to-date on what is happening. Materials for those who do not use email are available in the back of the church.. Below is also a video from Fr. Chris Martin, who is coordinating the process in conjunction with the Archbishop and the Catholic Leadership Institute. Please take some time to visit the website and familiarize yourself with the materials.
Sunday, February 20 is our third Sunday of the month "Unity Mass" at 9:30. Following Mass those who wish can remain in the pews and we will have a question and answer session. If you are not attending Masses in person right now feel free to email me any questions you have.
One of the promises of Jesus is that the future is bright because God is there waiting for us. He is with us now. I believe that wherever this leads, we will come out on the other side more immersed in the love of Christ and more committed to sharing his love with others.
God bless,
Fr. Scott

I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, God’s dwelling is with the human race. He will dwell with them and they will be his people and God himself will always be with them [as their God]. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there shall be no more death or mourning, wailing or pain, [for] the old order has passed away.” The one who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” Then he said, “Write these words down, for they are trustworthy and true.” Revelation 21:3-5 |
